“If you correct your mind the rest of your life will fall into place"
-Lao Tuz
Disclaimer, I am not a Registered Dieteian, nor am I in the medical field. I am just informing you on what I have studied and have read about. With that being said This Fall of 2022 I will be attending the University of Minnesota where I will be studying Nutrition obtaining my RDN license, and then eventually I will break out and do my own practice/research in my true passion Holisitc Health where I will study and teach how the mind/body/spirit work together as well as eating disorders!
My Thoughts
You may hear the term Holisitc Health, and go right to thinking about voodoo, and how you can't just magically get rid of cancer or fix a broken arm. Yes, I understand that you need to go to a real Licensed physician, but I firmly believe in healing the body naturally and I will always choose this route before going into the Doctors office if I can help it. This is my personal choice but feel free to do whatever makes you feel comfortable, no one is here to judge you! this is your life do as you please. I ask of you to respect my decisions as I will respect yours!
Holisitc Health
Holisitc Health is an ancient practice, that has been around for thousands of years, it was first used in western cultures. What most people get confused by is that the difference between modern medicine and holistic health is that, when you are going to the doctors you are there to stop the problem immediately, when using holistic medicine, you are finding the root of the problem and fixing it. I think of going to the doctors as putting a band aid on a broken arm. Yes, the band aid will heal the broken arm but what if that broken arm caused other injuries in your body, now you are dealing with so many more problems. Holisitc medicine is used to prevent other injuries/disease/problems from occurring in your body. No, I'm not saying don't go to the Doctors when you break your arm because, yes you definitely need to go! there are many cases in which you need to fix the problem immediately. One thing about Natural healing is that everything is connected, they say your gut is the second brain, everything goes through there and can be the root cause of many problems you are facing. Stressed about work maybe? there is something going on in the inside that is causing it. We have these little things called Gut Microbiome that live in our intestines they are the good bacteria and when they are imbalanced with the bad stuff, we may feel bloated, sick and uncomfortable. In order to fix this feeling, we need to find the root problem and align/balance our good bacteria. This can mean taking a probiotic with live cultures, it can mean meditating, doing yoga, taking supplements. All of these techniques are a part of Natural healing! that is what is so fascinating about it, it all revolves around what works for you and your body! There are so many forms, breathing techniques, diet, yoga, reiki, meditation the list goes on and on. That's why listening to your body is so important because it knows what you need, it will take care of you! One thing I am passionate about is the Nutrition part of Holisitc Healing, and what I mean by this is finding balance, moderation, and listening to your body. Today we have a built schedule around when we eat, we are so busy with work and often forget to eat and in some cases overeat, my goal is to intuitively eat (I know this isn't always going to work out, but I try as much as I can) knowing when my body is hungry, knowing when it is full. Asking myself what I want to eat by opening the fridge or pantry taking in a deep breath and allowing my body to tell me what it needs today. Another thing I am passionate about is eating healthy, (I know what you may be thinking, that's called and eating disorder) but no having a healthy diet means fueling the soul however that is to you, if that's eating even when you aren't hungry but just need something! eating ice cream for lunch! whatever your body is asking you! but there is always a balance. So much of our food is pumped with chemicals and additives that destroy the good gut bacteria which then revolves in other problems. I stick to eating whole foods, in which I am able to read the ingredients and understand everything that is going into my body! learning how your body works and what is good for it will really help you in other aspects of your life! Most of the food that is out on the shelf is produced with addictive ingredients that keeps us eating, that make us feel sluggish and causing so much obesity in our world! Roundup and fertilizer on fruits and veggies causing genetic changes in our bodies, we were never meant to eat these things, our body doesn't know how to break them down. GMOs in our meats destroying our bacteria. I know this may be hard especially since most good food is so expensive, and I am truly sorry that it is like this! but when you can think about what you are putting into your body, and how this may affect other parts of your life. If you have a sudden change in your life, where you are stressed, or sick or maybe fatigued think, what can I do to fix this, do I need to meditate, relax? find the root problem! Before you eat pray and bless the meal, thank it for nourishing you and giving you the ability to do the things you love and be alive each day!
(I hope to share some recipes on this blog, please contact me if you would like that!)
